We recently had the privilege of doing some work with the local VCFSE (Voluntary, Community, Faith, and Social Enterprise) community here in Somerset. It was brilliant, inspiring stuff, full of passionate people doing incredible work with limited resources.

But it also opened our eyes to something that frustrated us: just how bloody hard it is for non-profits to find out what AI tools are actually available to them, what they can get for free, and what’s discounted.

The information is out there, but it’s scattered across dozens of different websites, buried in FAQ pages, hidden behind jargon, and often written with US-based organisations in mind. If you’re a small charity in the South West trying to work out whether you qualify for anything, you could easily spend a full afternoon just trying to piece it together. And that’s time most non-profits simply don’t have.

So, we decided to do something about it.

We’ve Done the Research So You Don’t Have To

We’ve pulled together a dedicated resource page that brings all of the key non-profit AI offers into one place. No jargon, no rabbit holes, just clear information on what’s available, what it costs (including approximate UK pricing), and how to get started.

Here’s a taste of what we found:

Microsoft 365 Business Basic is completely free for non-profits with up to 300 users, and it includes Copilot Chat at no extra cost. That’s arguably the most secure business AI you can access without spending a penny.

Google Workspace for Non-Profits is free for up to 2,000 users and now includes Gemini and NotebookLM with enterprise-grade data protections. There are also paid upgrades available at up to 75% off if you want the full Gemini experience across Docs, Sheets, Gmail, and more.

OpenAI (ChatGPT) and Anthropic (Claude) both offer dedicated non-profit programmes with significant discounts, some up to 75% off their business plans, with pricing starting from around £6 per user per month.

And here’s the really important bit: these are all business-grade tools. That means your data isn’t used to train AI models, they meet SOC 2 and GDPR compliance standards, and they come with the admin controls, security, and collaboration features that organisations actually need. This isn’t the same as using the free version of ChatGPT for your charity’s work (which, for the record, we’d strongly advise against for anything involving sensitive information).

Why This Matters

Non-profits are under constant pressure to do more with less. AI can genuinely help with that, whether it’s drafting funding applications, summarising reports, analysing survey data, or just saving your team a few hours a week on routine admin.

But the barrier to entry shouldn’t be a maze of confusing pricing pages and US-centric eligibility forms. Every non-profit deserves to know what’s available and how to access it.
