This government-backed Skills Bootcamp continues our partnership with Yeovil College, where we’ve co-delivered AI-focused CPD, Digital Hub events, and training for educators. What is a Skills Bootcamp?

Skills Bootcamps at Yeovil College are flexible, government-funded courses designed to equip adults with in-demand digital and technical skills. They typically last up to 16 weeks and cater to individuals aged 19+ as well as employers seeking to up-skill staff. Yeovil College offers a variety of Skills Bootcamps, including digital marketing, leadership, engineering, and electric vehicle technology, with more being developed. These Skills Bootcamps are co-designed with employers to address skill shortages and ensure graduates have the skills necessary for career progression. Participants benefit from practical learning and employment opportunities upon completion.

Over this 10-week Generative AI: Automate and Build More Skills Bootcamp, you’ll explore the next level of intelligent automation and integration. This course builds on the foundation of our Generative AI Skills Bootcamp and is designed for technically minded learners ready to create real, scalable automations that combine AI and workflow design.

The course is 1 day a week, in person, from 9:00am to 3:30pm.

Weeks 1–3: Refresh core AI concepts and the relationship between AI, automation, and human oversight. Start building inside Microsoft Power Automate, then progress to data-driven flows using SharePoint Lists, conditions and branching to create smart approvals. You’ll establish best practices as a safe and effective citizen developer.

Weeks 4–6: Go beyond Microsoft 365 with cross-platform automation using tools such as Relay.app, Zapier and n8n - connecting systems without code. Introduce AI triggers and fundamentals like APIs, webhooks, JSON and Model Context Protocols (MCP). Then flip the direction so automations call AI for summarising, rewriting and generation, exploring temperature, tokens and model choice.

Weeks 7–9: Build bigger, connected systems. Use “vibe coding” to create simple AI-powered web experiences driven by your workflows. Work in teams to design and implement a fully functional AI-enabled process or product demo, tying together data, automation and AI.

Week 10: Demo Day. Present your end-to-end solution, share lessons learned, and translate your build into a practical integration plan — identifying measurable value, reducing repetitive work and outlining next steps.

At the end of the course, you’ll have a solid foundation in automation, a clear understanding of the difference between AI and automations, confidence in what’s possible, how everything fits together, and a personalised action plan for how automation and AI will support the future of your role or business.

Short answer: no. People often use the terms interchangeably, but they solve different problems.

AI is the “brain”—good at perception, language and judgement, but it can be variable and needs oversight (especially with agentic AI). Automation is the “hands”—prescriptive, consistent and repeatable. In practice, many teams who think they “need AI” actually need well-designed automations first, then add AI where it truly adds value.

Ideal Learner

This course is ideal for professionals ready to streamline the way they work, strengthen their digital capabilities, and harness the power of automation in real business contexts. Whether you’re a startup founder, educator, business leader, entrepreneur, or part of a growing team, this programme helps you understand what’s possible with automation and how to apply it effectively. You’ll gain hands-on experience in mapping processes, identifying opportunities for efficiency, and building practical automations that save time and reduce manual effort. By the end, you’ll be equipped with the skills and confidence to integrate automation into your role or organisation and stay ahead in an increasingly efficient, tech-driven world.

You will have to be aged 19+, have the right to live and work in the UK. You must agree to provide mandatory personal data and supplementary information on their employment outcomes for up to 6 months following completion of the Skills Bootcamp Agree to complete a Business Action Plan to support growth of your business. Finally, you must meet the requirements and/or prerequisites for the specific Skills Bootcamp.

Learner Profile:

• Age: Adults aged 19 or over
• Employment Status: The course is suitable for those who are employed or self-employed. This particular programme has been designed to up-skill individuals within their current roles and responsibilities to embed new skills.

Technical Skills:

• Computer Skills: Learners should already be confident computer users with daily experience using the internet and common productivity tools. They should also feel comfortable using Generative AI tools, navigating new software platforms, experimenting with features, and giving things a go rather than stopping at the first hurdle.
• This course is not intended for those who need basic computer skills support.
• Prior Automation Knowledge: While you don’t need to be an expert, some familiarity with workflow or automation tools such as Power Automate, Zapier, or Relay.app will be helpful. A basic understanding of how digital processes fit together will make the learning journey smoother, but the course will guide you through the core principles needed to build practical automations.
• Prior AI Knowledge: This course isn’t suited to those who have no experience using Generative AI; learners will get the most from the programme if they already feel comfortable working with these tools.

ChatGPT Subscription:

We recommend that you have your own paid ChatGPT subscription. However we do provide access to a paid ChatGPT TEAM subscription during the course. Please note, access will be revoked after course completion. Having your own subscription allows continued access to history and any custom GPTs you create. Subscriptions are available from £18 per month and offer advantages such as:

• Storing message threads for later use
• No rate limits, ensuring uninterrupted access
• Advanced features, including image creation and voice interaction
• Ability to create custom GPTs for tailored learning

Online Learning Area

Throughout the course, you’ll have full access to your Techosaurus Learning account, providing a dedicated space for ongoing learning and collaboration. This includes:

• A collaborative online learning area for accessing and sharing files and resources
• Office Online (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for productivity and coursework

This platform remains available each week, allowing you to revisit materials, track progress, and reinforce your learning at any time.

Hardware:

You’ll need a laptop that meets the following specifications:

• Operating System: Windows 10/11 or macOS 10.15 or higher
• RAM: At least 8GB for smooth operation
• Power: Bring chargers, as laptops will be used throughout the day
• Condition: Ensure the laptop is in good working order with reliable wireless connectivity

If you can’t provide a laptop, we can loan one for use during class. These devices must be returned at the end of each session.

Additional Peripherals:

Please bring your own keyboards or mouse if required, particularly for learners with specific needs such as RSI. Headphones with a built-in microphone are also required for interactive sessions and virtual meetings.

Software & Applications:

You’ll need an up-to-date web browser, such as Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, for accessing online platforms and tools.

Resources:

While not required, we recommend bringing a notepad and writing equipment for taking notes, designing, and jotting down ideas or inspiration throughout the course.
